MRS. ILENA “PATSY” PATRICIA MITCHELL-NELSON

BURLINGTON-Ilena Patricia Mitchell-Nelson, 83, of Burlington North Carolina, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023, surrounded by her loving family at Alamance House.

 Ilena, affectionally known as “Patsy” was the daughter of Mr. Alpheus Mitchell and Mrs. Georgiana Small-Mitchell. She was born in Clarendon, Jamaica to the proud parents of Alphaus and Georgiana Mitchell, both deceased.

Patsy attended school in Brickston Hill in the parish of Clarendon, Jamaica. She oftenshared stories about her childhood and her passion for track. Patsy moved to United Kingdom in 1961 for a better life for her and her family. While in the United Kingdom, she worked extremely hard to look after her children and loved to be around family and friends.

She worked as a Certified Enrolled Nurse at City Hospital in the UK.

Patsy and Lloyd traveled from the United Kingdom to the United States in the late 1980s to visit her sister and decided to call the United States her home. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant in New York until she retired in 2005. In 2005, Lloyd and Patsy headed to Florida to officially retire. On the way to Florida, they stopped to visit her sister and brother-in-law in North Carolina and decided to stay.

Patsy was predeceased by her daughter Sharon Anderson, and brother Barzilla Mitchell.

Patsy leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memories; her husband Gaston Lloyd Nelson; four daughters; Maureen (Clive Green), Arlene (Felix Whittley), Fiona, and Beverley (Andrew Brown); Sister Carmen (Alva Muir); Sister-in-law Ivolin Mitchell, Son-in-law Keith Anderson. She leaves a fruitful legacy of 18-Grandchildren, and 38 Great Grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

Ilena’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 3:30 pm at Alamance Funeral and Crematorium with Reverend Michael Wayne Thompson officiating and delivering the eulogy.  Burial will follow in the Gibsonville Cemetery.

Ilena’s public viewing will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023 from 1-5:00 pm.

Social distancing will be observed and a mask is required.
