Mr. Kenneth Edds Obituary

MR. KENNETH WALTER EDDS

Mebane- Mr. Kenneth Walter Edds was found dead on June 28, 2022.  He was 55.  Born and raised in Merritt Island, FL, Ken served eight years in the U.S. Navy as an electronics technician.  For a few years, he served aboard the USS Iwo Jima and some of that time was spent in the Persian Gulf.

One of his proudest moments from his Navy days was speaking to his young pen pals in person at his oldest nephew’s elementary school class. They sent him a Christmas package of goodies and his January visit allowed him to thank them in person.

He enjoyed spending time with his young nieces and nephews. He was always very patient and kind with them.  He once took his oldest nephew on a rafting trip on the Chattahoochee River.

After the Navy, he worked for a television cable company in Orlando, helping provide cable and satellite television service to hotel rooms.  Later he worked as a network technician at SAS Institute in Cary, NC, installing and troubleshooting complex computer networks.

He was always interested in current events and an avid fan of the CBS Evening News.  He did not like anyone calling at 6:30! Just in case he wouldn’t be home, at times he recorded the program.

He enjoyed camping until chronic pain sidelined his outdoor activities. He liked cooking large stir-fry dinners, leaving leftovers for the week.  He had an affinity for computers and electronics. Another hobby was shooting off model rockets. .

Son of the late Vivian McPeek Edds and Thomas R. Edds, he is survived by one brother, Thomas C. Edds of Durham, NC; two sisters, Kathleen S. O'Neil (David) of Port Charlotte, FL and Carolyn J. Edds of St. Petersburg, FL; three nephews, two nieces, four great-nephews, one great-niece, an aunt and several cousins.

Services will be held Sunday, July 10th at 1:00 p.m. at Mebane Memorial Gardens.
